The top 5 snow day activities for your kids.

Jan 12, 2018 | Blog

It’s no surprise, the snow sometimes affects your plans.

At TGC, we’ve seen snow impact the plans of families, sometimes in major ways. One of the most common ways is school being canceled, and although this is typically to the delight of your children, it also may be to the detriment of you (or whomever must now stay home with the kids).

So, what do you do? How can you make the most out of snow days?

5 activities to do on snow days!

  1. Board game olympics: Snow days are a chance to slow down and connect with each other. One option is to create board game olympics. It’s super simple: just pick a few board games and play them in a row; think about it as a triathlon of board games! Also, the metals or prizes can be fun too. Our recommendation is chocolate chip cookies! :)

  2. Make snow ice cream: Snow ice cream is a unique memory to create with your kids. Plus, who doesn’t love ice cream. The recipe is fairly simple too:

    – ½ cups half & half or whole milk
    – ¼ cup sugar
    – ½ tsp. vanilla
    – 4 cups of clean snow or shaved ice

See the rest of the recipe here (www.herviewfromhome.com/pinspiration-snow-ice-cream/).

  3. Hold a baking competition: Having a baking competition is a great option because it takes some time, creates a little bit of a fun mess, and you get to enjoy the “spoils” as a reward. Also, baking can be done with limited ingredients too, so you don’t have to be over prepared.
  4. Indoor obstacle course: If you have “very” active kids, but it’s too cold to have them outside, building an indoor obstacle course is an option. Using pillows, sheets, and basically any other “safe” obstacle you can find within your home. For the competitive families, you may want to time the kids on how long it takes to complete the course. Also, adding new obstacles creates a whole new course for the kids, giving them something to play on for hours!
  5. Put on a play: Finally, if you have a more mellow home (or you’re tired from the obstacle course), you should put on a play. Let your kids pick the direction and message of the play. Be sure to encourage them to dress up, even build a stage and audience if you’re able too. This is a great use of their imaginate. Also, be sure to film the play. You never know what kind of magic or memories will come from it.

While our team is busy clearing the roads, driveways, and sidewalks, we hope that you’ll be prepared with a few options for the “snow days” that are in your future!

Be safe out there this winter.
